Welcome to the Fair!

SMU was proud to present the 51st Beal Bank Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair in 2008. The Dallas-area science fair, which is open to all 7-12th grade students in TEA region 10 who win through from school and district fairs, is one of the largest in the nation with $100,000 in prizes and scholarships on offer. It is designed to comply with all the rules of the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Here are a few reasons why Science Fair has become such a vital force:

  • It focuses attention on scientific experience in school.
  • It stimulates interest in scientific investigation beyond that covered in the classroom.
  • It highlights and rewards scientific talent through exhibit and demonstration.
  • It provides constructive suggestions for science teachers and their students.
  • It recognizes teachers for their outstanding contributions.
  • It stimulates public interest in the scientific abilities of students.
  • It gives students an opportunity to win exciting awards and prizes.

    About the Fair

Since the first Dallas Regional Science Fair in 1957, the annual event has grown to be one of the largest regional student fairs in the United States. A gallery of the 2008 event...

2008 was the 51st Anniversary of the Fair. After winning local school and district fairs, nearly 800 students from 20 Dallas-area cities registered to exhibit projects in the Regional Fair. Projects were judged Saturday, March 29, 2008, for creative ability, scientific thought, engineering goals, skill, thoroughness and clarity by over 300 volunteer judges from area businesses, professional organizations and schools. Regional Science Fair projects were on display at Fair Park Sunday, March 30, 2008. See some of the news stories about Fair winners.
